Every year adventurous hikers attempt to thru hike the Continental Divide Trail (CDT) which stretches from the US/Mexico border to the US/Canada border through the Rocky Mountains. In 2016 I joined their ranks, leaving the Mexico border and hiking 2800 miles to reach Canada 5 months later. I hope this video gives you a glimpse of that incredible experience. • @JakeMikeDill
      @JakeMikeDill 2 года назад

      Yeah, I don't think I ever had a room to myself. I also ate simply and cheaply on trail, usually about $10 per day, and then probably the biggest thing was deciding to stay in the motel and eat grocery store food/drinks rather than huge restaurant meals and bar tabs. I had just come from NZ/Te Araroa so I had to stay on budget.

      @@JakeMikeDill thank you so much! Answers a lot of questions. I don't drink at all and personally I would rather cook and eat for myself, not a big restaurant person so thank you for that!

I've discovered your trail across Europe on your website, and the thing is that I was already planing to hike part of the same way. So I would be interested to get your GPX trace to get inspired, could be possible to share it ? Thank's ! :)

      Hi Samuel, On the site, make the map 'fullscreen' and then click the three dots beside the title for download options. This only works on a desktop computer, not from a phone. I recommend downloading the folders separately so the waypoints are more organized when you bring them into a gps app. Hope that helps!

    Trying to decide that, "if I could only do one (AT, CDT or PCT) which one would it be?" This video has tilted the scale towards the CDT. By the way, was that a beaver on top of a mountain @16:06?

    • @longfellowdeeds4726
      @longfellowdeeds4726 3 года назад

      For me it would probably be the PCT or CDT. The AT is fine for what it is, but its mostly a walk through the woods for 4-6 months. I personally want to walk the PCT, but permits look to be even harder to get in 2021. May just have to get over that belly fear I have about route finding and just go for the PNT or CDT

    • @DylanIvens
      @DylanIvens 3 года назад

      That was a marmot! you'll see plenty on either the PCT or CDT. Having not hiked the AT (yet?), this is how I see the main differences between the big 3: AT - very social, large local trail culture/community (trail magic!), few challenges except for steep/rough terrain, least scenic (if you want open mountain views) PCT - very social, fairly large local trail culture, easy tread, very scenic, have to deal with SoCal heat/dry stretches and Sierra snow CDT - fewer hikers (but still enough in a normal year that you can fall into a group), least local trail culture, very scenic, have to deal with few water sources in NM and WY Great Divide Basin, snow in San Juans/CO, very scenic. The route finding aspect of the modern CDT is overblown IMO, it's pretty straight forward these days (unless I'm forgetting something). PNT has some legit route finding but mostly on alternates which you could choose to avoid.

    Ahhh the good ole Gila, not too many if any commenting about growing up in that area. My life, my world is around southwest New Mexico. Those Gila canyons and hot springs are the best. I bet you missed a few without that local knowledge! You also missed some Native American sites which I will not disclose. One is literally 1/8 mile off the trail!
